About Us

Venezia Contemporanea is an Art and Culture organization founded in 2007 and based in the heart of the historic Jewish Ghetto of Venice, the first Ghetto in Europe, established in 1516. We advocate for preservation of Jewish Heritage. both at the grassroots level and with organisations of the European Jewish Network. 

We are dedicated to supporting cultural initiatives that foster tolerance, coexistence, and awareness of racism, antisemitism, and all forms of prejudice and discrimination. Through art, we aim to open spaces for dialogue, reflection, and connection across communities.

In collaboration with La Storta Exhibition Space and Skyline loft and studio and ScalaMata editions, we host fully and partially funded Artist Residencies and run a variety of research based residencies and education programs. Our residencies invite artists from around the world to live and work in Venice, creating projects that respond to the Jewish Ghetto, social, cultural, and environmental themes, particularly those impacting Venice and the surrounding lagoon.

As an active presence in the city’s cultural life, Venezia Contemporanea also contributes to major events such as the Venice Biennale, offering independent exhibitions that spotlight emerging and underrepresented voices in contemporary art.

We partner with local and international organizations to promote inclusivity, equality, and intercultural dialogue, believing in the transformative power of the arts to challenge injustice and inspire change.
