Located in the heart of Venice’s historic Jewish Ghetto – the first ghetto in Europe, established in 1516- the residency offers an inspiring environment for artists, writers, and researchers across all disciplines.

This unique location blends the serene, authentic charm of a historic neighborhood with a lively surrounding hub of cafés, shops, restaurants, and bars. A vaporetto station is steps away, and both the Santa Lucia train station and Piazzale Roma bus terminal are within easy walking distance.

This setting allows participants to focus on their creative development while engaging deeply with Venice’s art scene and rich cultural tapestry – from museums and the Biennale to artisan workshops and the lagoon.

Designed to be self-directed, the residency empowers artists to tailor their own experience: whether that means immersing themselves in quiet research, organizing exhibitions, engaging with local communities, or networking with international artists and cultural institutions.

We strive to offer an inclusive platform supporting diverse voices and interdisciplinary engagement.

Studio and Exhibition Space

Conveniently located below the Skyline apartment, facing the campo on the street level – the studio/exhibition space provides an optional venue to create, exhibit and sell your work with no commission on sales. As well as host artist talk, book launch, workshops and cultural activities.

Support

Equipment video projector and hanging system, lights, tools, basic art supply free of charge. We assist with contacts to services, printshops.

Funds we provide partial sponsorship, official invitation letters to support external grant applications.

Exhibitions While we don’t host exhibitions or cultural events ourselves, we’re happy to support our residents with light curatorial and logistical guidance. Whenever capacity allows, we also love sharing your updates and promoting events across our social channels.We showcase our residents on the Artists page of our website.

Hired assistant – we provide contacts for local services and can assist you in finding a dedicated assistant to welcome visitors, answer inquiries, and handle sales. While we maintain a local contact list, we cannot guarantee individual availability or capacity. Please note that payment is settled directly between the artist and the hired assistant.

Accommodation

A newly renovated, authentic Venetian spacious three room apartment in one of Venice’s tallest buildings. It offers an unparalleled breathtaking unique view of the rooftop across the historic city.

• Fast WiFi, AC, equipped kitchen, washing machine and other essential amenities
• Sleeping arrangements include two double beds and additional mattresses
• Suitable for individuals, couples, families or creative collectives.

• Accessibility: Located on the 7th floor without an elevator; not suitable for guests with mobility challenges.

Special dedicated Residencies

Ghetto-Related Site Specific research and art projects for artists across disciplines all year around as well as parallel to the European Days of Jewish Cultures

Located in the heart of the world’s first Jewish Ghetto, we explicitly encourage applications from artists, writers, and academics who address the marginalisation and discrimination of vulnerable communities.

Artists and academics of all disciplines are invited to create site-specific work and pursue ghetto-related research, with space dedicated to reading, book launch, performance and exhibitions. The residency is open to Jewish and non-Jewish artists, academics, and researchers working across disciplines.

We welcome applicants from all backgrounds to pursue artistic and academic, research-based projects that engage with a wide range of perspectives on Jewish heritage and identity, and address the challenges that Jewish artists, writers, and researchers are facing today. We also support site-specific, exploratory creative processes, as well as projects examining the chances and risks of AI-generated art in this context.

Residencies for Artisans and Designers all year around and parallel to the Homo Faber

Held all year around and parallel to the Homo Faber event, this residency invites artisans, designers, and artists to immerse themselves in a unique creative and networking experience. The program emphasizes a dialogue between traditional craftsmanship, digital innovation, and artistic vision.

Duration & Fees

Designed to make this unique opportunity accessible, artists offered with a partial sponsorship.

• Standard stay: 2 weeks- 4 weeks
• We are happy to discuss extensions or split stays to suit residents’ needs, subject to availability.
• Full cost: €2,400 per week
  – €1,200 covered by the artist
  – €1,200 sponsored by Venezia Contemporanea
• An additional fee of €20 /a night for extra person
• €70 cleaning fee for two cleanings once during the residency and at the end.
• All utilities and essentials included.
• There is no application or registration fee.
