We offer a Partially Sponsored Residency Program that focuses on space, place, location – responsive projects, critical projects addressing environmental issues and Projects inspired by Venice or created in Venice or the Laguna.

The partially sponsored Residency Program offers a minimum of one week and maximum of two weeks at the La Storta Exhibition Space and livable studio, with fully equipped kitchenette, WC+shower.

The residency fee includes lodgable studio and exhibition space with no percentage on sales. It does not include Travel fees, Material for creation and food.

The exhibition space La Storta is located in the heart of Venice in the prestigious Old Jewish Ghetto. Situated in a 500 year old renaissance bottega La Storta is one of the most authentic exhibition spaces in Venice. A bakery, a cafe and a restaurant are in the vicinity. Also the main bars and restaurants hub “Fondamenta Misericordia” is just around the corner. A supermarket is 10 min. walking distance.

Accommodation: The main part is a private exhibition space/studio at the front, with a very large window and a small courtyard. The wall exhibition space inside is approx. 42 sqm.
Due to La Storta’s location, the works of art are exposed to a large international audience, many of which are art buyers and collectors. During the art and architecture biennale the area attracts many journalists, museum directors and curators.
The space is divided into three parts. a Private exhibition space/ studio. The accommodation space is a 15 sqm living unit, offered at the back of the space. It includes a double bed, a tiny mansarde, a bathroom with shower + wc and a small kitchen corner with a mini fridge and stove. The space is also the home of a red cat called Campari, with occasional visits of a fluffy cat named Penelope, so if you are allergic to cats the residency is not for you. The space can host max. two adults and two children.

Studio: The space is divided into three parts. The main part is at the front. A studio/Workspace with a very large window and a small courtyard. The wall exhibition space inside is approx. 42 sqm in the front. There is a cat in the studio so if you are allergic to cats this residency is not to be considered. NO SMOKING environment (you can smoke in the courtyard)

Accessibility: There is a cat in the studio so if you are allergic to cats this residency is not to be considered. Disabled Artists are encouraged to apply with no extra fee for care-takers

Duration of residency: The partially sponsored Flexi Residency Program offers an average of two weeks residency, with minimum of one week and maximum of one month at the La Storta Exhibition Space and liveable studio. If you wish to stay longer, for research based residency or developing a body of art that justifies a longer stay for artistic development purposes, mention it in your application.

Disciplines and media: All media inc. Visual Art, Video Art, Digital Art, Animation, Installations, Performance Art, Printmaking, Ceramics, land art, Photography and Design.

Presentation of artists’ works arranged on a case-by-case basis. The works made during the residency will belong to the artist with no fee to be paid to VC.

We also host other activities: Music concerts, Literature – book launching and public reading, Workshops, Seminars and Courses

VC and La Storta providing the following equipment and services:

– Wireless Internet

– Video equipment: video projector and hanging system

– Air-conditioning and heating system

Included free services:

– Curatorial assistant

– Logistic consultancy

– We assist residential fellows in their efforts to secure funding through external grants by providing official invitation letters.

Fees and support: The residency fee is 1,800 euro. The non profit organization Venezia Contemporanea partially sponsors 50% of the residency fee. Residency fee for the artist: 950 Euro for one week. Symbolic fee for extra person per night. This fee is already partly sponsored. The space can host max. two adults and two children.

Grants availability: We are aware of the fact that artists might not be able to afford this expense and need to apply for public art funds. Venezia Contemporanea supports the invited residential fellows in their efforts to secure funding through external grants by providing an invitation letter. If you plan to apply for funds, we recommend starting 8-12 months before your residency begins.

Payment and cancellation policy: Cancellation Policy: If the cancellation is made up to three months before the residency your deposit will be fully refunded. In case of cancellation in short notice, less than three months in advance VC will keep nonrefundable 50 Euros for administration expenses. If you can not attend the residency on the planned date and inform us 2 weeks ahead of the agreed date, we will reschedule your residence to the next available opportunity. Last minute cancellations will not be refunded.

  4. We made the experience that artists need between 6-9 Months to secure funds depending on their country of residence. Do you have a fund secure to enable you to cover the partial residency fee? nor need time to secure funds?

How to reach La Storta Exhibition Space:

From Treviso Airport: 1 hour and 10 min by bus. There are bus shuttles directly from Treviso to Venice. Departure in front of the airport main entrance every 30 min. One way cost 12 Euro you can also buy the ticket directly at the bus station – ATVO https://www.omio.com

From the nearest Venice Marco Polo Airport:

By bus: Bus Nr. 5 from the Marco Polo Airport to Piazzale Roma in Venice (leaves every 20 min. approx. 20 min. ride)

By boat: Vaporetto Nr. 51.1 from Piazzale Roma (10 min. ride)

By foot from bus station Piazzale Roma (15 min walk): Cross the Calatrava bridge (Ponte della Costituzione) which is in front of the ticket office and walk straight till you reach the Ferrovia Santa Lucia train station and follow the instructions below.

By foot from train station Ferrovia Santa Lucia (10 min walk): go out to the main exit, turn left and follow Lista di Spagna continue straight at the Campo San Geremia. Right after the Guglie bridge turn sharp left after 100 m. before Gam Gam restaurant enter the passage on the right (Sottoportego Ghetto Vecchio) continue straight to the old ghetto. The exact address with house Nr. and instructions on how to get there will be provided before your arrival.
