Residencies parallel to the Architecture Biennale di Venezia 2023
Towards the 18th International Architecture Exhibition titled The Laboratory of the Future, that will take place from Saturday 20 May to Sunday 26 November, 2023 (pre-opening May 18 and 19), we offer Partially Sponsored Residency Program that focuses on space, place, location – responsive projects, critical projects addressing environmental issues and projects inspired by Venice or created in Venice or the Laguna. We accept artists and artists’ collectives who wish to participate in our artists in residence program and present their artwork in one of the most vivid art scenes in the world.
We welcome artists who address marginalization and discrimination in their work, engage themselves for a better future and commit themselves to environmental issues.
Duration of residency.
The partially sponsored Residency Program offers minimum of one week and maximum of two weeks at La Storta Exhibition Space and livable studio, with fully equipped kitchenette, WC+ shower.

The exhibition space La Storta is located in the heart of Venice in the prestigious Old Jewish Ghetto. Situated in a 500 year old renaissance bottega La storta is one of the most authentic exhibition spaces in Venice. A bakery, a cafe and a restaurant are in the vicinity. Also the main bars and restaurants hub “Fondamenta Misericordia” is just around the corner. A supermarket is 10 min. walking distance.
Disciplines and media: All media including Visual Art, Video Art, Digital Art, Animation, Installations, Performance Art, Printmaking, Ceramics, Land Art, Photography and Design.
We also host other activities: Music concerts, Literature – book launching and public reading, Workshops, Seminars and Courses

Accessibility: No wheelchair accessible studios and exhibition spaces
No smoking environment indoors
We offer a unique private exhibition space with a large shop window vitrine, and livable studio – Due to La Storta’s location, the works of art are exposed to a large international audience, many of which are art buyers and collectors. a show window to 30 million visitors all year round from the Carnival to the Art and Architecture Biennale.
During the art and architecture biennale the area attracts many journalists, museum directors and curators.
The space is divided into three parts. The main part is at the front with a very large window and a small courtyard. The wall exhibition space inside is approx. 42 sqm in the front. A 15 sqm living unit is offered at the back of the space. It includes a double bed, a bathroom with shower + wc and a small fully equipped kitchen with a mini fridge. We also provide cleaning service at the end of the stay. The living space is suitable for max. 2 people. We can assist with finding accommodation for small groups up to 10 people in the area of the Ghetto provided we are notified well in advance.

Fees and support
Residency fee: 950 Euro for one week. 10 Euro for any extra person for one night. This includes livable studio and exhibition space. It does not include: Travel fees, Material for creation and food.
We are aware of the fact that artists might not be able to afford this expense and need to apply for public art funds. Venezia Contemporanea supports the invited residential fellows in their efforts to secure funding through external grants by providing an invitation letter.
In case that you plan to apply for funds we advise you to plan your residency 6 months in advance so the time that requires securing your funds.
Expectations from the artist
We expect artists to have a professional and respectful dialogue with our staff members and hope that artists will make the best out of this unique opportunity for their personal and artistic endeavors and career development.
We expect artists to leave the La Storta premises as clean and tidy as they found it. Work material should be disposed in the unusual way waste is treated in Venice. (explanations to be provided in situs).
The works made during the residency would stay with the artist. Artists are asked to bring their own receipt booklet if they plan to sell artworks. VC is a Non Profit Organization and cannot process sales.
